Note: The Free Trade Agreement with the US came into force on 1 January 2005. This includes substantial changes to the Copyright Act, including the extension of duration provisions. Many areas are affected by copyright: photography, writing, performing arts, sound recordings and more. In general terms the changes give more protection to copyright holders, and also use more criminal sanctions. However, changes imposed by the new legislation may have unexpected results.
